St Galls Summer Fete
What a scorcher! It was one of the hottest days of the year and it was literally a baptism of fire at the Summer Fete which was our first ever stall. The Summer Fete is one of the busiest events of the year when adults and children come to have a great day and we were delighted that St Galls offered us the Charity Stall. We distributed flyers and sweets in equal measure that day and were pleased to welcome two new members to our monthly meeting in July because they had received a flyer.
Receiving funding from Ulster Bank Staff Charity Fund
Thanks to having already obtained official charitable status we were able to apply to this Fund to assist us to purchase an electric therapy bed for our complementary therapy room. We were overjoyed at being given full funding for the bed which was installed in August. The flexibility of this bed greatly assists both our clients and our therapists.
Hosting an Oncology Services Transformation Project event for Macmillan
Macmillan Cancer Support held a number of events in various venues to explain to the public the 10 year plan they have to improve cancer services in Northern Ireland. We were pleased to host one in Bangor on their behalf.
Live Life Longer event by North Down Community Network
A number of organisations and charities were represented at the event and it was good to make contact with other charities with whom we could work in tandem.
Hosting our own Health & Wellbeing Event
This was held in the Fountain Centre in Bangor and basically showcased all the cancer organisations under one roof. This enabled people to go from one stall to the next picking up information on all the services which are available to them. Two of our therapists provided hand massage which was a lovely experience for those who were lucky enough to have a treatment.
St Galls Artisan Bazaar
Our grateful thanks go again to St Galls for giving us their charity stall at yet another prestigious event. Even though the weather was not the kindest it gave us the opportunity to hand out our flyers and tell people about the services we offer. We are slowly but surely getting our charity known to residents in the Ards and North Down area.
Sew Healthy event
This event was organised by the North Down Community Network and we, together with Macmillan, chatted and advised visitors of the services available to them.
Final Note
No-one in our organisation is paid so all donations we receive go to towards providing aromatherapy oils and other materials for the continuation of this service. Macmillan support us by providing further training for our therapists and Action Cancer support us by providing counselling and training for our therapists.
